'Global War On Terror' Is Given New Name
The Obama administration appears to be backing away from the phrase "global war on terror," a signature rhetorical legacy of its predecessor.

In a memo e-mailed this week to Pentagon staff members, the Defense Department's office of security review noted that "this administration prefers to avoid using the term 'Long War' or 'Global War on Terror' [GWOT.] Please use 'Overseas Contingency Operation.'"

Europe hedges on Guantánamo detainees

Germany’s interior minister, Wolfgang Schauble, has suggested publicly that if Guantánamo detainees pose no security risk, there is no reason the United States should not take them.

“We should know what is being asked of us,” said Pekka Lintu, Finland’s ambassador in Washington.

Guantanamo Detainees May Be Released in U.S.

Attorney General Eric Holder said some detainees being held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, may end up being released in the U.S. as the Obama administration works with foreign allies to resettle some of the prisoners.

For "people who can be released there are a variety of options that we have and among them is the possibility is that we would release them into this country," Mr. Holder said. "That process is ongoing and we've not made any determinations or made any requests of anybody at this point."

Barack Obama, the US president, is to be told that to avoid a repeat of the devastating 9/11 attacks on America or Britain he must dramatically step up aid to Pakistan.
