Speaking In Tongues?

Why Only Spanish?
The USA goes to great pains, time and costs to translate the spoken and written word of English into Spanish. Press "1" for Spanish/English. Government literature, voting instructions and correspondence in English accompanied with a Spanish translation. Interpreters at public announcements, etc.

How many ethic groups are being discriminated against in their language when they can't understand a word of spoken or written English? Why is the USA catering to and giving preference to the Spanish language? Aren't there other ethic groups and foreign nationals in this country that deserve similar consideration? It's blatantly sticking it in their face that their groups of people and language do not rate equally with the Hispanic tonque. Why are we not offering translation for the Asians, the Muslims ... the many others ... of which represent large segments of US population? Why not?

Any Hispanic or other immigrant in this country for any length of time is probably a citizen and - even if not - should have learned the common language in order to assimilate more easily. Maybe they're not citizens - just transients, infiltrators or advance parties - and they don't want to learn.

Of course, their vote counts! All votes count ... unless challenged. But that's another issue.

Barack Obama Says American Kids Should Be Required to Learn Spanish

Obama: Kids Should Learn Spanish
Barack Obama lamented legislative pushes to make English the official language of the United States and said Americans should instead focus on making sure their children learn Spanish

“I don’t understand when people are going around worrying about, we need to have English only. They want to pass a law, we just, we want English only,” Obama told supporters in Powder Springs, Georgia on Tuesday. “Now, I agree that immigrants should learn English, I agree with this. But understand this, instead of worrying about whether immigrants can learn English, they’ll learn English, you need to make sure your child can speak Spanish.”

He continued his thoughts by expressing embarrassment at Americans’ language skills compared to the Europeans. “You should be thinking about how can your child become bilingual,” he said. “We should have every child speaking more than one language. It’s embarrassing when Europeans come over here, they all speak English, they speak French, they speak German. And then we go over to Europe and all we can say is merci beacoup, right?” SOURCE ...

[Many American citizens do not enjoy the luxury of world travel ... nor have they encountered occasions in the daily life of things of having to know a language other than English. Solution: Require everyone to be ALL-lingual and speak in tongues. Or ... Choose a common language. Current Leaning: Hispanic.]
